I have come from a family of Scouts. My father and my uncle are Eagle Scouts. My grandfather has always been very involved in Scouting. He has just recently received the Silver Antelope award and is currently a volunteer at the council level for the Bucktail council in Pennsylvania. These are some of the reasons that I am involved with Scouting. I want to be like them, because they have made a good life for themselves and are well respected men.
I started my Scouting career in Cub Scouts. I went through all the badges there, and enjoyed every meeting. After I received the Arrow of Light, my Webelos den reorganized Troop 171. There are now only two of us still left in the troop. I quickly earned the Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class badges. After receiving those ranks, I knew I was going to reach the Eagle rank. I had gone too far already to quit.
I have been very active in my troop. I have attended almost all of the camping trips since joining the troop. I have held the positions of Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant, Patrol Leader and Assistant, Troop Guide, and Instructor. I have gone to summer camp with the troop every year except last summer because of a church mission to Tennessee. I attended the National Scout Jamboree in 1993 and had a great time. I have been selected to work on youth staff for the Jamboree in 1997. I always help out iwth the concession trailer run by the troop as a fund raiser.
I plan to graduate with an advanced diploma in 1999. I want to attend college at the University of Virginia where I hope to play soccer and work towards a career as an orthodontist.Throughout my Scouting career I have learned many important lessons. These lessons will be of great use when i go off into the world by myself. They will make ma a better all around person and a good leader.
